The game started with 40 cards in the deck (short game). I don't know if that's correct or not. Should the 40 cards include those on the table and players' hands?
Anyway, the main issue is that after the first move (move #3 in the log), the number of cards in the deck went down to 6, and the game finished too soon. I can't see anything in the rules to justify this. -

This is due to the Vervet Monkey being played. The Vervet Monkey steals two cards from the deck

When was it played? The first move is playing an ant, and there's no monkey on the table. Do you mean that the monkeys in the cards not in use were counted as played and therefore discarded additional cards from the draw pile? Still, that doesn't explain the number on the draw pile going from 40 to 6 in one move.

Apologies, i read it wrong. I thought deck went from 40 to 36. Which happens in case of a vervet monkey.
This is really weird. There is nothing in the code which can do this.
The table is no longer open, so I don't have the means to check what has happened.

It has happened to me in some other "half game" tables, they ended much earlier than what felt right. But this one was kind of extreme. I guess if you try playing other games with 40 cards you'll hit something similar.
