We are unable to proceed in the game because of disagreement in team selection. I would suggest either always randomized or if there is disagreement after 1 round of voting that it goes to a random selection, or some such process to keep things from a stalemate.

I could implement what you suggest, but I think that it runs the risk of pairing people up against their wishes. If players couldn't agree, I think its a product of people not understanding what is happening.
I think the best way to handle this is some more descriptive text at team selection process explaining how it works.

I am sure that is true. It probably wasn’t clear to us and it seemed like all 4 people had to agree or something because we kept trying different combinations.

If you take a look at how spades assign teams here on BGA it might be of use. You have the options when setting up the game to have teams as Seats 1&2 vs 3&4 or 1&3 vs 2&4. That way the selection process is already done before starting the game.

This has been modified to work as it is in spades. This should resolve the problem of people not able to agree on teams as the host sets the teams.
