Pick better colors would be my first choice. Failing that add icons or shapes for the different factions, "die" shape doesn't need to be square for this implementation. If nothing else enable hover text (similar to ships) for the placed workers on tech tree and the discs placed on the map.

Thanks. I've added tooltips for discs and cubes on the board. I'll keep this open for now, since I still need to add tooltips to pawns, but hopefully this is helpful for now.

Is it possible to also have the option to remove the theme from the chat? It's very difficult to read as incoming messages come in as red color. Once the message has stayed for a little, it goes to black, which is easier to read but still somewhat difficult.

I've updated the chat theme to provide better contrast for other players' messages (the chat bubbles are more opaque-white).
I admit I'm a little confused by the request, though: the default chat theme has a cream-colored background for its messages. Surely contrast with red is worse on those than on the pale blue used here?

The color choices for the different players are too similar. I'm red/green colorblind and in this four player game I only can distinguish two (2) colors between the four (4) players - a reddish and a bluish color. This makes it very difficult to see who is doing what on the board.

In a 4-player game i only see cubes of two colors.

I'm having the same problems, please allow for a change of colors, I can't play this marvellous game here on BGA.

I'm not sure what you mean by "allow for a change of colors." The set of colors in this game is the standard set used in most BGA games.
All player pieces have tooltips to indicate the owner. While inconvenient, you should be able to use them to play the game even if fully colorblind. I'm not sure what more I can do at this point.
